Sony Doubles Down: GTA 6 'Will Play Best' on PS5

Sony used its official PlayStation Blog on June 28 to state that Grand Theft Auto 6 “will play best” on PS5. The post details several PS5-specific capabilities that the company says elevate the game’s performance and feel, though it does not draw a direct comparison with the Xbox Series X or S versions. The claim echoes a marketing push that we examined earlier when similar messaging first surfaced.

The blog stops short of isolating frame rates, resolution figures, or loading times that would let buyers verify the advantage. Without head-to-head benchmarks, the “best” label remains a marketing assertion rather than a technical guarantee. GTA 6 is set to launch simultaneously on PS5 and Xbox Series X and S on November 19, 2026, so the two console families will share the same release date and core feature set.

Sony’s timing is deliberate. The post lands as pre-orders are live, with the Standard Edition priced at $79.99 and the Ultimate Edition at $99.99 in the US. Framing the PS5 as the lead platform can nudge undecided buyers now that purchasing is open. Rockstar Games has not publicly endorsed or contradicted Sony’s claim.

For now, Sony’s stance puts the PS5’s DualSense haptics and other system-level features front and center. Whether those add up to a meaningfully superior experience won’t be clear until third-party comparisons appear after release.
