Can Xbox Series S run GTA 6?

GTA 6 is a confirmed Xbox Series X and Series S title, releasing November 19, 2026, digitally on the Microsoft Store, with a boxed Standard edition at retail whose case contains a download code rather than a disc.

The confirmed editions are Standard and Ultimate. Rockstar’s support guide says the Ultimate Edition Upgrade can also be purchased later by a Standard owner. The retail box is Standard only and contains a download code, not a disc, so buying Series X does not turn that box into a disc-based install.

Digital pre-load begins at local midnight on November 12. Physical codes can be redeemed once retailers provide them from November 12. Rockstar has not published one worldwide playable-hour schedule, so the pre-load date should not be presented as a confirmed midnight unlock on November 19.

Series S vs Series X: what Rockstar confirmed

Series X and Series S are both official launch platforms. Rockstar has not published different resolution, frame-rate or graphics modes for them. Series S is the lower-cost console with less storage and lower hardware capability; Series X has more storage and stronger hardware. Those hardware differences do not prove a specific GTA 6 output mode before the finished game is measured.

Storage, Game Pass and launch checklist

The final install size is not published. Series S owners have less built-in storage headroom, so they should review installed games before November 12 and wait for the Microsoft Store listing before buying storage solely for GTA 6. Expansion cards add space, but no exact GTA 6 requirement exists yet.

Rockstar lists no Xbox One launch version and has not announced GTA 6 for Game Pass. Plan to buy the game on Series X or Series S unless an official store listing changes.
