When can you pre-load GTA 6? November 10
GTA 6 digital pre-load opens on November 10, 2026, nine days before the November 19 launch: at midnight local time on PS5 and at 12 a.m. GMT worldwide on Xbox, Rockstar says. It needs up to 212 GB of free space.
Pre-loading means downloading the game files in advance, so you press play when GTA 6 unlocks instead of watching a progress bar. Rockstar announced the date on November 3, 2026, two days earlier than the November 12 date it had given before. On PS5, digital pre-load begins at midnight local time in your own time zone, which reaches New Zealand at 11:00 UTC on November 9. On Xbox Series X and S it begins at one moment worldwide: 12 a.m. GMT on November 10, which is 7 p.m. Eastern and 4 p.m. Pacific on November 9 by our conversion.
To have it start by itself, Rockstar says a PS5 needs auto-downloads turned on and the console on or in Rest Mode, and an Xbox needs automatic updates turned on and the console on or in Sleep mode. You need a purchase on your platform account first, so pre-order before then if you want the download to begin at the first moment.
Rockstar says the pre-load "will require up to 212 GB of available space depending on your device". It has not split that by console, so clear the full amount. System software reserves part of every console drive, so check Storage in your console settings, and see the file size guide for each console’s options. If the download is close to that figure, a 212 GB transfer is about 1,700 gigabits before protocol overhead: roughly 4 hours 43 minutes at a constant 100 Mbps, 9 hours 25 minutes at 50 Mbps, or 18 hours 51 minutes at 25 Mbps. Real downloads vary with Wi-Fi, congestion and server speed.
Boxed buyers have one wrinkle. The physical GTA 6 edition ships with a download code rather than a disc, so it still needs the full download, and Rockstar said code-in-box versions should reach retailers from November 12. Delivery or pickup timing decides when a boxed buyer can start. Once downloaded, GTA 6 stays locked until launch, and what time that happens depends on your region: the PlayStation Store listings show midnight in each region.

When can you pre-load GTA 6?
Digital pre-load opens on November 10, 2026, nine days before the November 19 launch. On PS5 it begins at midnight local time, and on Xbox Series X and S at 12 a.m. GMT worldwide, according to Rockstar.
What time does the Xbox pre-load start?
12 a.m. GMT on November 10, 2026, at the same moment worldwide. That is 7 p.m. Eastern and 4 p.m. Pacific on November 9 by our conversion.
Do you need to pre-order to pre-load GTA 6?
You need a purchase on your platform account. Digital pre-orders can start from November 10. Boxed copies contain a download code, so a boxed buyer starts once the code is in hand.
How do I make GTA 6 pre-load automatically?
On PS5, turn on auto-downloads and leave the console on or in Rest Mode. On Xbox, turn on automatic updates and leave the console on or in Sleep mode. Those are Rockstar’s instructions.
How long will the GTA 6 pre-load take?
Rockstar gives the space needed, not a download size. If the download is close to 212 GB, a constant 100 Mbps connection takes about 4 hours 43 minutes before overhead, 50 Mbps about 9 hours 25 minutes and 25 Mbps about 18 hours 51 minutes. Wi-Fi, congestion and server speed can make the real transfer longer.
Can I still refund GTA 6 after pre-loading?
On the US PlayStation Store, no, and other regions’ policies may differ. Sony’s US policy ends a digital pre-order’s refund once the download starts, pre-load included, unless the game is faulty, and auto-downloads can start it for you at midnight on November 10, so turn them off if you are undecided. On Xbox you can cancel in Order history until about November 9, around when its pre-load opens; after that refunds typically come within 14 days of purchase if you have not played much, though not every request is accepted. Checked November 3, 2026.
How much space do I need to pre-load GTA 6?
Up to 212 GB of available space, depending on your device, according to Rockstar.
