Age rating
What is the GTA 6 age rating?
Expected M / 18 Australia’s public database lists GTA 6 as MA 15+ through IARC. The ESRB and PEGI have not published public GTA VI listings in our July 15 check. M (Mature 17+) and PEGI 18 are strong expectations based on series precedent, not confirmed board decisions.
Every past mainline Grand Theft Auto carried a mature rating in major regions. GTA 6 already has one official listing on the books: Australia’s Classification database records an MA 15+ decision dated June 15, 2025. In the US, ESRB Mature 17+ is expected, and in Europe PEGI 18 is expected. Sony’s PlayStation newsletter has listed the game as ESRB M ahead of the board’s own public rating page, but the ESRB listing itself remains the source to wait for.
How the rating is actually decided is worth understanding, because it explains why the official page is not up yet. In North America the ESRB assigns the rating: trained raters review footage and a disclosure form from the publisher, then recommend a category, a set of content descriptors, and interactive-element labels, which the board confirms. In Europe PEGI uses a publisher questionnaire that is checked against the finished game. Both systems tend to post the full rating and descriptors close to launch rather than at reveal, so the detailed GTA 6 breakdown lands nearer November 19, 2026.
The content descriptors are the useful part for anyone deciding whether to buy. GTA 5 carried Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Mature Humor, Nudity, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content, and Use of Drugs and Alcohol. GTA 6 is very likely to carry a similar set: the trailers already show gun violence, drug running, strong language and adult themes, so expect the same mix of violence, language, drugs, and sexual content that has defined the series.
For parents, the practical read is simple. GTA 6 is an adult title, closer to an R-rated or 18-rated film than a typical teen game, and the Mature/18 rating is a content warning, not a formality. Digital storefronts and some retailers apply age verification at checkout, and consoles offer parental controls that can block M or 18-rated titles by account. If you are buying for a younger player, our parents guide walks through the console controls and what the content actually involves.
Expected GTA 6 rating by region
Most boards have not published GTA 6 ratings yet, so the guide is what each gave GTA 5. Australia is the exception: its official Classification database lists GTA 6 as MA 15+ on June 15, 2025, one step below GTA 5’s R18+. Everywhere else the mature tier remains an expectation, not a published GTA 6 decision.
| Region and board | GTA 5 rating (the precedent) | GTA 6 (expected) |
|---|---|---|
| United States and Canada (ESRB) | M, Mature 17+ | M expected |
| Europe and UK (PEGI) | PEGI 18 | PEGI 18 expected |

Frequently asked questions
What is the GTA 6 age rating?
Australia’s official database lists GTA 6 as MA 15+ through IARC. The ESRB and PEGI have not published public GTA VI listings in our July 15, 2026 check. M (Mature 17+) and PEGI 18 are expected from series precedent, but the boards’ own records are the confirmation that matters.
Is GTA 6 suitable for kids?
No, it is an adult game, closer to an R-rated film than a teen title. Expect content descriptors covering intense violence, strong language, drug use and sexual content, the same mix GTA 5 carried. The Mature rating is a genuine content warning, not a formality. For console parental controls and a full breakdown, see our parents guide.
Is GTA 6 going to be 18+?
An adult-tier rating is expected in most regions, but the final PEGI, USK, CERO and ESRB decisions are not public in our July 15, 2026 check. Australia’s official database is the exception: it lists GTA 6 as MA 15+ through IARC. Storefronts and consoles can enforce published ratings through checkout and account-level parental controls.
When will the official GTA 6 rating be announced?
Australia’s official Classification database already lists GTA 6 as MA 15+, dated June 15, 2025. ESRB and PEGI have not published their full GTA 6 pages, so their timing and final descriptors remain unconfirmed until those boards post them.
