GTA 6 parents guide
GTA 6 is made for adults. It has not been officially rated yet, but like every Grand Theft Auto game it is expected to be Mature 17+ (ESRB) and PEGI 18, with violence, strong language, sexual content and drug use. Here is what is in it, and how to set up parental controls. For the rating detail, see our age rating page.
What is in GTA 6
Based on GTA 5 and the GTA 6 trailers, parents should expect intense violence and blood, strong language, sexual content and nudity, drug and alcohol use, and mature humor. The online mode adds chat with strangers and optional real-money purchases. None of this is a surprise for the series, and it is the reason the game is aimed at adults.
Parental controls, step by step
On PlayStation 5
- Set up a child account inside Family Management, on the console or in the PlayStation app.
- Set the Age Level for Games to block Mature-rated titles.
- Limit or turn off communication and user-generated content (voice, text, messages).
- Set a monthly spending limit, and remove any stored card.
- Set play-time limits for school nights and weekends.
On Xbox
- Add the child to a Microsoft Family group and use the Xbox Family Settings app.
- Set content and age filters to block Mature games.
- Restrict multiplayer and chat to friends only, or turn it off.
- Turn on ask-to-buy and set a spending limit.
- Set screen-time limits per day.
Our recommendation by age
- Under 13: not recommended. The content is adult, and the rating will be 17+ or 18.
- 13 to 16: a parental call. Play together, keep controls on, and supervise the online mode.
- 17 and over: the intended audience for the game.
