Is GTA 6 coming to PlayStation 5?
Yes. GTA 6 launches on PlayStation 5 on November 19, 2026.
Grand Theft Auto VI is a confirmed PlayStation 5 launch title. It releases on PS5 (and runs on PS5 Pro) on November 19, 2026, digitally on the PlayStation Store, with a boxed Standard edition at retail whose case contains a download code rather than a disc.
The PlayStation Store lists two digital choices in the United States: Standard at $79.99 and Ultimate at $99.99. Standard is the base game. Ultimate adds exclusive vehicles, weapons, outfits and shops. A boxed Standard version is also planned, but Rockstar says the box holds a download code and no disc. There is no physical Ultimate edition.
Pre-load starts at midnight local time on November 10, 2026 for digital copies, and a boxed copy can start once its download code is in hand; Rockstar said code-in-box copies should be available from retailers beginning November 12. Rockstar has not published an unlock-time table, but the PlayStation Store listings unlock GTA 6 at midnight in each region, in waves: 11:00 UTC on November 18 in New Zealand, 00:00 UTC on November 19 in the UK and 05:00 UTC on November 19 in the US, which is midnight Eastern. The PlayStation Store lists GTA 6 as PS5 Pro Enhanced, with DualSense haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, Tempest 3D Audio, Remote Play and offline single-player support. Those are store listing tags: neither Sony nor Rockstar has published what the Pro enhancement changes, including the resolution, frame rate or graphics modes. Rockstar’s GTA VI site says the game “Plays best on PlayStation 5”, and both An Extended Look (August 27, 2026) and the Launch Trailer (October 15, 2026) were captured in-game on a PlayStation 5. Kotaku reported, from creators who visited Rockstar North, that consoles run the game at 30fps at this stage and that Rockstar would not commit to a 60fps mode. Do not buy a PS5 Pro for a promised GTA 6 mode that has not been detailed; see PS5 vs PS5 Pro for GTA 6.
Rockstar says the pre-load will require up to 212 GB of available space, depending on your device, and it gives no split by console. A standard PS5 and a PS5 Pro both use internal SSD storage, so check your free space before November 10. The GTA 6 file size guide sets that figure against each console’s drive.
Rockstar lists no PlayStation 4 launch version. A PS5-family console is the supported PlayStation route today.

Is GTA 6 on PS5?
Yes. GTA 6 is a confirmed PS5 release, launching November 19, 2026.
Does GTA 6 run on PS5 Pro?
Yes. GTA 6 is a PS5 title and Sony labels it PS5 Pro Enhanced. Rockstar and Sony have not published the exact differences in resolution, frame rate or graphics settings.
Why does Sony say GTA 6 plays best on PS5?
Sony’s June 24, 2026 PlayStation Blog post points to PS5 features: DualSense haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, sound from the controller’s integrated speaker, Tempest 3D Audio and near-instant load times from the SSD. It gives no frame rate, resolution or comparison with Xbox, so it describes features rather than a measured lead.
Do I need to update my PS5 for GTA 6?
Install the latest system software before November 10, the day pre-load opens. The PlayStation Store listing names no minimum version. IGN reported that Sony released update 14.22 with security fixes on November 2, and that some believe the game will need at least 14.20 or 14.22. Checked November 3, 2026.
