Grand Theft Auto VI, almost always written GTA 6, is the sixth numbered entry in Rockstar Games’ long-running Grand Theft Auto series, the open-world crime games where you drive, shoot and run missions across a satirical version of America. It is the direct follow-up to Grand Theft Auto V, which shipped in 2013 and became one of the best-selling games ever made, so GTA 6 is the sequel a generation of players has waited more than a decade for.
It is developed and published by Rockstar Games, with the Edinburgh studio Rockstar North serving as a lead studio in the wider Rockstar team. Take-Two Interactive is Rockstar’s corporate parent. GTA 6 arrives on November 19, 2026 for PS5 and Xbox Series X and S; Rockstar has not announced a PC edition or date. Rockstar set the US price when it opened the store: $79.99 for the Standard edition and $99.99 for the Ultimate edition, confirmed on June 24, 2026 ahead of pre-orders on June 25.
The game is set in Vice City, Rockstar’s take on Miami, inside the fictional state of Leonida, a stand-in for modern-day Florida. Where the 2002 Vice City was frozen in the 1980s, this one is present-day: influencers, beach clubs, swamp chaos and social-media culture. The story has two playable leads, Lucia and Jason, a criminal couple on the run through Leonida. Lucia is the first female co-lead in the modern 3D and HD-era GTA games; the original 2D-era Grand Theft Auto included playable women.
Why does GTA 6 matter so much? GTA 5 has sold enormously well over its lifetime, one of the highest-selling video games in history, which makes its sequel one of the most anticipated entertainment releases of the decade, not just in gaming.
