The dispute centers on data that multiple outlets had cited as showing a heavy tilt toward PS5 pre-orders over Xbox Series X and S. Microsoft did not release its own internal figures but characterized the circulating numbers as wrong. The company's statement, reported by several publications, marks the first time a platform holder has commented publicly on the sales race for the most anticipated game of the year.

GTA 6 pre-orders opened with the Standard Edition priced at $79.99 and the Ultimate Edition at $99.99 in the US.
