Microsoft Disputes Reports of Huge PS5 GTA 6 Pre-Order Lead

Multiple outlets reported that PS5 versions were outselling Xbox by a ratio of 6:1, with some outlets repeating a figure as high as 8:1 only days after pre-orders went live on June 25.

The company's response, reported by multiple outlets, was direct: "People should wait for real data." Microsoft did not release its own figures but stressed that GTA 6 is not a PS5 exclusive and that early pre-order windows often reflect short-term marketing momentum rather than final platform share.

Sony holds the marketing rights for Grand Theft Auto VI, and pre-order materials on both the PlayStation Store and physical retail have leaned heavily on PS5 branding. That arrangement almost certainly influences the snapshot of early pre-orders, though it says nothing about how sales will look at launch on November 19, 2026, when both platforms will have the game available.
