GTA 6 wanted level and police
An Extended Look (August 27, 2026) shows the GTA 6 police in detail: a wanted level that climbs to six stars, officers who track who you are through your clothes, face and car, and police cars that no longer sit on the minimap. You shake a chase by changing masks, hats and clothes or switching vehicles.
What the official footage shows. An Extended Look puts the police system on screen. The wanted level climbs to six stars, one above GTA 5’s five-star ceiling. The police also track your identity: on-screen icons show what they know about your clothes, your face and your car, and whether Jason and Lucia are seen together, while police cars no longer appear as markers on the minimap. To lose a chase you change masks, hats and clothes or switch vehicles, so shaking heat is about changing what the police are looking for, not only breaking their line of sight. Trailer 2 had already shown officers busting suspects and running pursuits, and fans spotted ghost police decals that let patrol cars blend into traffic.
What past GTA games did. GTA 5 capped the wanted level at five stars. Escaping meant breaking the police search area until the stars stopped flashing, with a respray or an outfit change helping in past games. GTA 6 keeps the line-of-sight idea but layers the identity tracking on top.

Red Bull reported after the Extended Look that it tracks your behavior, such as unnecessary violence, across the whole game rather than resetting the way stars do, and Rob Nelson told Famitsu it is the first such system in a GTA game, sharing some traits with the Honor system in Red Dead Redemption 2. Nelson also said stars do not rise easily: as in Red Dead Redemption 2, you only become wanted if someone sees the crime.
