What we know about GTA 6 mods

• Confirmed Rockstar’s Mod Guidelines are general. Rockstar published Mod Guidelines on September 10, 2026. They name the Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption series and do not name Grand Theft Auto VI, so they are a general policy, not GTA 6 rules.
• Confirmed Multiplayer mods go through Rockstar’s Creator Platform. The guidelines limit multiplayer modding to Rockstar’s official licensed Creator Platform, or whatever Rockstar otherwise licenses directly, and bar cheat menus and other software that interferes with its official multiplayer, online services or Creator Platform.
• Confirmed Selling mods. Unless permitted through the Creator Platform, all modding must be strictly non-commercial. The guidelines also bar real-money gambling, loot boxes and gacha, selling in-game virtual currency, crypto, sponsored content and charging for access to content Rockstar made.
• Confirmed Story and games stay apart. No mods that expand or modify official storylines, plots, missions or characters, and none that combine maps, locations, characters, assets or other IP from one Rockstar title into another.
• Confirmed No unofficial ports. Rockstar tells people not to modify its games to run on consoles, hardware devices or other platforms where it has not officially released them.
• Confirmed Rockstar can remove any mod. The page says it is not a license, that Rockstar can revise it at any time, and that Rockstar reserves the right to take down any mod or other user-generated content at any time for any reason.
• Likely Mods need the PC version. GTA games get their large single-player modding scene on PC. Rockstar has not announced a GTA 6 PC version or mod tools, so no GTA 6 mod timeline can be established.
• Likely Console mods. Rockstar has announced no console mod support for GTA 6, and its earlier GTA games have not offered it on console. Treat the launch versions on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S as unmoddable unless Rockstar says otherwise.
• Unverified GTA 6 online rules. Rockstar has announced no GTA 6 online mode, so there are no GTA 6 online rules yet. The existing guidelines already bar cheat menus that interfere with its official online services.
• Unverified Roleplay servers. GTA roleplay today runs on community modding frameworks on PC. The guidelines limit multiplayer modding to the Creator Platform and bar implying that a custom server is endorsed by Rockstar; how that applies to a GTA 6 roleplay scene has not been announced.
