Will GTA 5 and GTA Online shut down when GTA 6 launches?
No shutdown is planned. Take-Two’s CEO expects GTA Online to keep being supported after GTA 6 launches, and GTA 5 single-player stays playable.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has said he has every reason to believe Rockstar will continue supporting the current GTA Online after GTA 6 releases, pointing to its large, engaged player base. So a hard shutdown at GTA 6 launch is not on the table.
That said, support levels are ultimately Rockstar’s call and can change over time, so this is an expectation rather than a lifetime guarantee. GTA 5’s offline story mode is unaffected either way and remains playable.
