Daft Punk reportedly turned down GTA 6 soundtrack offer

Daft Punk reportedly turned down an offer from Rockstar Games to score Grand Theft Auto 6, despite what was described as an unlimited budget. Dexerto reported on October 20, 2026 that the French duo were approached about the project but decided against it. Rockstar has not confirmed the claim.

The claim comes from the account hasitleaked, which posted on X on October 19. According to that post, Daft Punk's management was pitched "a final comeback" of the duo for the GTAVI soundtrack with "essentially an unlimited budget". The same post says "Justice were Rockstar's second choice." Instant Gaming reported on October 19 that the account claims to have revealed information about Daft Punk and Justice for more than 10 years, and advised readers to treat the rumor with a grain of salt.

Rockstar named Justice as composers of the GTA 6 score, and the new Justice track "Flower in a Hurricane" plays a pivotal role in the Grand Theft Auto VI Launch Trailer, which Rockstar released on October 15, 2026. Dexerto notes that Daft Punk disbanded in 2021, though the duo has released anniversary editions of their albums since then, and that they had a 'Daft Punk Experience' in Fortnite in 2025.

Dexerto states that the duo's music could still feature in the game, but that this will not be known until Rockstar releases the complete soundtrack. Rockstar has not said whether Daft Punk were ever approached, and the claim has not been independently verified.
