Fans split over blurry look in GTA 6 launch trailer

Kotaku reports that Rockstar Games put out a trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 that runs a little over a minute and a half, released on October 15, 2026. Some fans have objected to its blurry camera-lens style and called it a graphics "downgrade." Kotaku explains that the effect is an image-processing treatment usually called a Gaussian blur, and that players can switch similar filters on and off, as was the case in Red Dead Redemption II.

Gaming Bible reports that the trailer was shadow-dropped on Rockstar's social media channels and that Reddit users are arguing over whether the game looks worse than in Trailer 2. Redditor The_XXI said the scenes seem to push a humid, bloomy look like the bayou in Red Dead Redemption II, which, paired with a vignette, made things hard to see. Other users said the launch trailer is bloomier and yellower than Trailer 2, while some described the treatment as a stylistic choice by marketing. Gaming Bible quotes one user who said the trailer "looks like someone smeared Vaseline over my screen."

Gaming Bible reports that many users think the softer picture may come from YouTube compression, and that official screenshots often get extra polish. Gaming Bible describes both explanations as speculation.

Gaming Bible notes that Grand Theft Auto VI releases on November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, and that Rockstar has not commented on the visual question.
