Buy GTA 6 digitally on the PlayStation Store before launch and you get a free month of GTA+, Rockstar's paid membership for Grand Theft Auto Online. The catch sits one step later: the moment you redeem the activation code, auto-renew switches on by default. When that free month runs out, the subscription bills you $7.99 in the US, with £6.99 in the UK and €7.99 across the eurozone, until you cancel it. The bonus is genuinely useful. The silent rebill at the end is the part to switch off.

The fix takes under a minute and you can do it the same day you redeem, without losing the free month. On a PS5, open the PlayStation Store, select the '...' menu and go to Subscriptions, then find GTA+ and turn off auto-renewal. The longer route through the console settings works too: Settings, then Users and Accounts, then Payment and Subscriptions under the Accounts tab, then Subscriptions, where GTA+ sits with the cancel-auto-renewal toggle at the bottom of the screen. Switching it off does not end your free month early. You still get every day you are entitled to. You just will not roll into a paid month you never asked for.

One detail trips people up more than any other. You are not subscribed the instant you pre-order. Rockstar sends a separate activation code by email, and the auto-renew clock only starts when you redeem that code. That means the smartest move for most buyers is to wait. Redeem it the week you actually start playing Online, not months before launch when there is nothing new to use it on, so the free 30 days line up with time you will really spend in the game.

This bonus is also strictly a digital-store perk. Buy a boxed copy of GTA 6 from a retailer and there is no GTA+ month included; the case holds a game download code, not a disc. Only digital purchases made through the PlayStation Store or Xbox Store before release carry it, alongside the Vintage Vice City pack that ships with every pre-order regardless of where you buy. If the membership is a deciding factor for you, the digital pre-order is the version that carries it.
