A fresh leak of roughly 200GB of GTA 5 source code surfaced today, and the files inside appear to show a Liberty City expansion that Rockstar Games started and then scrapped. The same dump reportedly carries very early GTA 6 assets, giving the community its latest look at what the studio was prototyping years before Vice City became the announced setting.

The material arrived online unverified, raw, and unstructured. Analysis so far points to a near-200GB version of GTA 5's source code with references to Liberty City, the setting of GTA 4, which never shipped as an official expansion. The early GTA 6 files are described as formative, the kind of internal experiments studios keep when a project is still finding its shape.

That distinction matters. GTA 6 is set in Vice City and Leonida, not Liberty City, so any GTA 6 material in this dump almost certainly predates the game's final direction. It can hint at what Rockstar was testing around engines, tools, or mechanics, but it cannot reveal what the finished game contains. Fans who try to connect these files to specific features in the final build are reading tea leaves, and the usual leak caveats apply: labels can be wrong, files can be planted, and context is often missing.

For the Liberty City theory, though, this is one of the strongest artifacts to date. Players have speculated for years that Rockstar planned a GTA 5 expansion set in Liberty City and dropped it when development priorities shifted. A source code trail showing that scope is the closest thing to a paper trail that theory has ever had. It would also fit a studio known for cutting ambitious ideas rather than watching them leak.

Practically, none of this changes the path to launch. GTA 6 is still scheduled for November 19 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X and S, and pre-orders have been open since June 25 with the Standard and Ultimate editions priced at $79.99 and $99.99 in the US. What the leak does is keep a specific question alive: whether Liberty City could ever appear in GTA 6 as post-launch content. Rockstar has never said anything on the record about that, and this dump does not change that silence.

The caveats are heavy. None of this is confirmed by Rockstar, and the studio typically ignores leaks entirely. The 200GB figure itself is an approximation based on the size of the files circulating, not an official number. And while the phrase "early GTA 6 work" is being attached to some of the content, it comes from community analysis rather than any first-party statement. Those still digging through the earlier 192GB Rockstar leak that resurfaced with early GTA 6 files will recognise the pattern.

The honest position is that a leak this size changes the conversation but not the calendar. GTA 6 ships in two months, and the versions players are pre-ordering today are the ones that will arrive on November 19. If those early assets show up in the final game in recognizable form, this dump will become a valuable piece of prehistory. If they do not, it will sit beside every other abandoned build in Rockstar's locked filing cabinet, which is exactly where a scrapped Liberty City expansion was thought to be.
